Mobile social networking started in the end 80’s, when
people first started to interact with individuals of same interest and connect
with them through their analog system based phone. Although social media sites
like orkut, facebook and others were not in service at that time, people were
still communicating through radio transmissions. We call this first generation
of social networking.
The needs for improved transmission quality, higher
system capacity, better system coverage, more services, security and better
spectral efficiency paved the way toward second generation cellular systems.
Thereafter, evolution began and mobile technology leveled up to second
generation around 2000-03, where individuals could interact with others using
features like phone calls and text. Internet access was mainly done
through the computers only because of slow internet speeds on mobile phones.
